The sun had yet to crack beyond the horizon, and the air of the desert was cool. Winter’s touch did brush over the land of Ardura, but seemingly only when the sun was away.
Lucien… was freezing his ass off. “Arceus…” Standing there at the outskirts of Incaendium, Lucien was wondering why he hadn’t packed a jacket for this trip. Maybe because it was supposed to be a desert or something? Ugh. Damn. Wow. Rubbing his bare arms a bit, he glanced down to his lower half. Fur really did do better than even a t-shirt out here, heh, but hella.
Fishing his new ‘phone’ from the saddle bag across his horse back, he checked the time. His adventure partner would be there any moment, hopefully! And then they could get moving and warm up. Or maybe the sun would come up first. Either way, man. Either way.

Ashling wasn't exactly sure what she was looking for, but had been told by her contractor that her partner would have more details. This Lucien knew what they were looking for, while Ashling knew the terrain around this area well enough. They should make a pretty good combination, she felt, assuming he did his part.
Finding him was no trouble at all, given his race. Still, Ashling hadn't been prepared for the reality of working with a centaur, and struggled a little not to stare too much as she approached. Waving, she greeted, "Hi there! You must be Lucien, right? I'm Ashling, the guide Mr. Lumio hired to go with you."
God, he was tall. She kept a bit of distance just so she didn't have to crane her neck up as much to look at him, but this was still incredibly awkward ajiwjioawof.
Lucien had been glancing down at his phone when Ashling had approached and rather quickly looked up from it as she started speaking. “Oh eey!” he grinned rather quickly putting the phone back into his saddle bag. “Nice ta meetcha, I’m Lucien,” he grinned bending down to her as best he could and extending a hand. “Yer pretty cute.” He couldn’t help it. Her small stature and cat ears were absolutely adorable. “Ya a Nananananan cat-wo-hoooo-man?”

Ashling reached up and shook the centaur's hand. Yer pretty cute. A bit of color rose to her cheeks. "Oh uh, thank y--" And then... What was he even... Her ears turned down as her mouth twisted. "...Right..." Well that was one sort of impression to make, she guessed.
"So, uh... What are we looking for exactly? I only heard that it was some kind of artifact." Why the quest commissioner hadn't given her more detail, she hadn't the faintest idea. Maybe he wanted them to work together or some cryptic something like that. Who knew, honestly? She mentally shrugged.
A weird half-chuckle escaped from Lucien as he realized whatever reference he had been trying to make hadn’t landed. Ah well, heh?? Heh. The question, however, had him refocusing a bit. “Oh yeah it’s ah…” he paused shifting to his saddle bag to ruffle through a few items.
Fishing out a scroll and unrolling half of it, he revealed what was the item of interest. “It’s called an Oasis Tear?”
The item on the page was vaguely tear-drop shaped but also a clear blue hue that transitioned to purple at both ends. “Apparently they’re kinda uncommon but found ‘n oasises in this area??” Lucien was just repeating what he had been told. He’d never even seen the thing in person, but there seemed to be this whole ‘you’ll know it when you see it’ kind of thing going on.

"Oooh." Ashling looked over the picture on the scroll, her green eyes widening and sparkling as she took it in. "It's beautiful." Maybe if they found more than one she could pocket one? Who knew what they went for, but she wouldn't mind having such a pretty stone just for her own personal collection of pretties.
"I guess we should get heading out, huh?" Slowly, she looked up at him. "...Say, uh... I hope it's not rude to ask, but would you maybe... mind if I rode on your back?" Gosh she hoped it wasn't inherently offensive to ask a centaur that. "It's just your legs are so much longer than mine and I wouldn't want to slow us down and..." She didn't just wanna ride the pretty horsey or anything, this was a legitimate concern for the sake of their mission going smoothly and quickly okay.
“Right?” Lucien half laughed as Ashling looked over the item. It was pretty beautiful. It was also almost hard to believe that it just sorta existed out in the wilds somewhere. Then again, so did so many strange and beautiful things back home. Z crystals, Mega Stones, and so many other sparklies just sort of appeared in certain spots… It was fascinating now that he looked back on it.
A thought for another time.
Lucien straightened up and stretched. “Yeah.” He was starting to get cold again, so moving sounded pretty good. The question, however, immediately had him grinning. “Oh yeah sure totally,” he answered bending down and extending a hand to her. If she let him, he’d pull her up and ease her onto his back.
Whether by this or other means, once Ashling was on, Lucien would start moving forward. “And we’re off!” Oh man, yeah, it did feel good to actually move. A trot would become a steadier walk as he became more assured that the ground was stable, and after that, he moved into a pretty decent gallop. “Ya ok back there?” he called.
