“Hey, you’re a dog, right? Right?”
Orion deadpanned looking sideways at this giant red-haired man with a toothy grin on his face. “Wolf, werewolf, and you’re also a werewolf, Klaus, and so is most of the pack…” Glancing forward, Orion smiled a little to himself on considering his own words again before talking.
“Why not let one of the new recruits or whatever handle it. They have to earn their keep somehow too…” Orion’s hand reached up and trailed through his own hair a bit. They were technically new recruits from him of all people, and technically that vaguely made them his responsibility, but Orion didn’t want to own up to that.
Klaus snorted. “They’re barely pups right now… and I’ve heard some things about this house…” Well that earned a curious look sideways. Klaus smirked. Orion smirked. “Apparently the mice in here much bigger than what one would expect. They’re about the size of the cows they keep praying on.” Huh, well that was … that was something, wasn’t it?
Rolling his shoulders, Orion walked a little faster down the road they had been heading down. “Well, I guess that’s something worthwhile.” Orion was smirking harder and harder now. “I wouldn’t want it to be boring or a stupid challenge…”
Klaus chuckled. “Hey there you go, get a good workout from it then.”
As they came to the place, the woman was waiting outside her house with a broomstick in hand. She retold the encounters and what she was worried about most: her precious farm animals that took the brunt of the fear. Orion only half paid attention preferring to let Klaus deal with the woman. Once he was assured that he was ago, however? Oh Orion was on. Slipping down into his wolf form, he stretched briefly and started to sniff around. Hmm, yes that way, yes, that way, no, what about over here, hm, weird smell that way… Coming around to one end of the barn, Orion stopped and raised his head.
….
…..
…..
Well. That was much bigger than a cow even was. Standing alongside the building was a mouse that almost matched the entire thing in height and weight. Orion’s ears flickered back against his head. A growl reverberated from him. The mouse let out a sudden sharp terrified squeak and… went running??? Wait no not that way that’s right towards the farm house! Ugh. Snarling and running after, Orion wondered how he had gotten into this mess.
Thump, thud, thump, squeak! Orion lunged and jumped down on the mouse keeping it from getting any closer to the farm house. The mouse rolled over and tried to shake him off, but at the last moment, Orion’s maw opened and snapped down on the creature. It shriek-squeaked and squirmed, but Orion would not let go. It rolled a couple of times, and Orion squirmed a bit to find new places to chomp down. In its fear, the creature moved to expose its next, however, and in that moment, Orion ended things.
Panting in the silence, Orion shook his head and slowly shifted back. “Damn what a big thing…” Well, at least that was a quick job for some cash or whatever Klaus had made a deal for— Squeak. Orion groaned turning around to see two more mice, a little smaller than the gigantic one he had just downed but clearly there. “Are you kidding me?” Nope, the hunt was on again.
The hunt went on for some time. Every time Orion thought he had downed the last one, it seemed like more kept coming up out of the woodwork. He had considered asking Klaus for help, but the sly asshole had made it a thing of pride somehow, and Orion had fallen for it hook line and sinker. No he would get this job done and he’d do it all himself! He had to! Ugh, maybe he could chase the last few aw— What do you mean there was another massive one to down! What was this lady doing? Using magic to make these suckers huge? God, she had better feed him well or something for all this trouble. Klaus was going to get an ear full of it too by the time he was done! Just you wait!
By the time it was all over, Orion was exhausted. Wandering back along the way to the farm house, he collapsed and curled up under the porch occasionally listening to Klaus’s words out the window. Dozing for a bit, he’d recoup some of that lost energy before Klaus was done doing whatever.
